What is a conversion?

In the context of referral programs, a conversion can be any action that you would like the friends (the people that are being referred) to complete when they visit your website.  It could be a purchase, a newsletter sign up, a form submission or anything else that you define.  InviteBox allows you to define campaign rules such that the referrers are rewarded only when their friends take a specific action on your website (conversion).  Conversions can be used with the following three campaign types:

  • Goal-based rewards
  • Referral contest
  • Sweepstakes & Giveaways

Setting up conversion tracking

While logged into InviteBox, choose the right campaign, and navigate to the ‘Integration’ tab.  Copy-paste the conversion tracking script into the action confirmation page (e.g., purchase confirmation, registration confirmation) on your website.  That is it!

When you are testing if its setup correctly, be sure to use an incognito browser when you are simulating the friend (the person that’s being referred).  InviteBox has anti-fraud mechanisms in place, so if you are conducting more than one test, you might need to use a different device with a different IP address to test successfully.

Recording conversions manually

Once you setup conversion tracking as per the above instructions under ‘Setting up conversion tracking’, conversions get recorded automatically.  But sometimes the conversion happens ‘offline’ (e.g., someone walks into your store or calls you on the phone and makes a purchase).  In this case, InviteBox provides an option to record a conversion manually.

As shown in the below screenshot, click on the ‘+’ sign in the row containing the referrer’s name (you can use the search bar at the top of the page to find the referrer).  In the dialog that pops up, enter additional optional information and click on ‘Add conversion’ to record the conversion manually.

Viewing conversions

There are two ways to view conversions:

1.  View all conversions: Navigate to the ‘Participants’ tab, and click on the ‘View all conversions’ button as shown in the screenshot below.

2.  View conversions for a specific referrer: Scroll to the row containing the referrer’s name (you can use the search bar at the top of the page to find the referrer).  Click on the ‘eye’ icon in that row to see the conversions for that specific referrer.
